Hopes are on again. You can get on track…the railway track…with electric trains in around 7 to 8 months from now.

Electric trains are known for their speed. A diesel engine runs at 110 km/hr whereas electric engine will take you at 120 to 125 km/hr. Udaipur railway division is soon to be connected to Chittor, Ajmer, Jaipur and Delhi railway circuit through electric trains. First stage of work in this direction is complete. Work is in progress for the second stage.

Work of Ajmer-Udaipur electric train circuit began in 2016. The first stage of this circuit was completed by September till Hamirgarh. The second stage began in October from Hamirgarh to Udaipur via Chittor. Necessary formalities of poles, underground cables and electrical equipments are being done. It is being expected that by June or July 2018, electric route will be finalised between Udaipur and Ajmer.

For Udaipur-Ahmedabad, March 2019 is the target for completing the work. Once the route is ready for electric trains, all diesel engines will be replaced by electric engines. Electrical engineers will replace mechanical staff. Diesel engine loco pilots will be given proper training for operating electric engines. Zonal Railway Training Centre has started training courses for electric engine pilots.
