Relief for Airlines: Govt Cuts Airport Fees by 25% for 3 Months

The 25% reduction in airport landing and parking charges for domestic flights issued by AERA applies to all major airports in the country for three months

April 9, 2026 - The Civil Aviation Ministry of India has officially implemented a 25% reduction in airport landing and parking charges for domestic flights. The cut is effective immediately and will remain in place for three months. It applies to all 34 major airports (like Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad) and also extends to other airports under the purview of the Airports Authority of India.

This order was issued by the Airports Economic Regulatory Authority (AERA) and has been taken to provide relief to airlines which have been impacted by the West Asia conflict. Any revenue shortfall for airports will be considered in future tariff reviews, as per AERA.

Airlines are facing sharp cost pressures owing to rising aviation fuel prices, higher operating costs and longer flight routes because of airspace restrictions (over Pakistan). According to reports, IndiGo and Air India had urged the government to provide this relief.

This temporary move is meant to ease financial stress on airlines and prevent steep fare hikes. While passengers may not see direct discounts, it is likely to help prevent ticket prices from rising sharply in the near term. Savings for airlines are estimated to be around Rs 400 crore over three months, according to reports.

"This is a significant intervention to provide relief to airlines grappling with increasing operational costs," said Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu on Wednesday (April 8).
