IndiGo Told to Immediately Compensate Affected Flyers for Disruptions
The airline will issue travel vouchers worth Rs 10,000 each to those passengers who were stranded at the airport for many hours during December 3, 4 and 5
Dec 20, 2025 - The Union Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) on Friday (December 19) directed IndiGo airlines to immediately begin compensation to the affected travellers of the airline following major IndiGo flight disruptions earlier this month.
The airline will issue travel vouchers worth Rs 10,000 each to those passengers who were stranded at the airport for many hours during December 3, 4 and 5. This will be in addition to the additional compensation of Rs 5,000 to Rs 10,000 as per the government norms as well as ticket refunds.
The travel voucher will be valid for travel with IndiGo in the next 12 months.
Compensation payment should start within a week for passengers who booked tickets directly from IndiGo website as their data is already with the airline, as told to ToI by a government official. Those who booked via travel agents and online travel agencies will be paid directly by the airline soon, as instructed by the Ministry.
Source said the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has been directed to oversee the compensation process while the MoCA will also monitor it through its Air Seva grievance redress site.
