In a welcome move, IRCTC has decided to refund in full, for regular tickets booked on or before 14 April 2020. All trains by the Indian Railways, except for the 120 special trains being operated for stranded passengers or for urgent and critical journeys, have been cancelled till further notice.
For passengers who have booked regular train tickets on or before 14 April 2020 for a journey within 120 days from the day of booking, the Indian Railways will provide a full refund of the tickets. This is a protocol followed by the Indian Railways. They advice passengers not to cancel tickets for trains that are cancelled, as the IRCTC provides a full refund on bookings for cancelled trains. As per IRCTC, when a train is cancelled in the system, the passenger gets a full refund.
Indian Railways had cancelled all trains from 25 March 2020 in view of the COVID19 pandemic. Only the 230 special trains that are being operated for migrant workers, stranded people and for people who have to undertake urgent train journey will continue to run. All advance bookings had ceased from 15 April 2020.
