Jan 21, 2026 – IndiGo Airlines is likely to continue with limited flight operations and may even reduce flights further after February 10 to comply with the pilot duty rules when the exemption of FDTL given to the airline ends. According to government officials, this reduction in operation may contine until the end of the winter season till 2026 March end.

India's largest airline has assured the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) that it will implement the flight duty time limitation (FDTL) rules after the exemption deadline ends.  IndiGo has told the government that it will ensure smooth operation, without cancellations, post February 10 and may even go for short-term network readjustment if required. Currently, there are about 2,200 IndiGo flights on domestic and international sectors daily.

The new, safety-enhancing FDTL rule, imposed by the Ministry of Civil Aviation, mandates stricter duty limits and rest periods for pilots and therefore, requires more pilots for smooth operations.

The Ministry had temporarily rolled back the pilot duty rule and given IndiGo exemption from FDTL until February 10 after the airline underwent mass flight cancellation and disruption in early December 2025 which it said was owing to “operational reasons”.
