IndiGo Warns of More Cancellations for Next 2-3 Days Amid Schedule Reset
IndiGo crisis enters Day 4 with 550 cancellations, long queues and DGCA intervention; passengers stranded with no updates
Dec 5, 2025 - IndiGo Airlines crisis continues entering its fourth straight day on Friday (December 5) with widespread delays and cancellations leading to chaotic scenes at airports across the country. To add to the woes of hundreds of passengers, the airline staff appear to have no clue on flight status even as baggages pile up at the airport terminals and stranded passengers are forced to wait for long hours as they look for some clarification.
Most impacted routes have been Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Pune, Bengaluru and Goa. There have been more than 550 cancellations of which there were at least 172 cancellations in Delhi, 118 in Mumbai, 100 in Bengaluru, 75 in Hyderabad, 35 in Kolkata, 26 in Chenna and 11 in Goa.
Angry flyers complained of no food, no water and long queues at counters. Some airports saw protests by frustrated passengers leading to more chaos. Attempt to book on other carriers prove futile owing to seat shortage and sky-rocketing ticket prices.
According to media reports, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) held several urgent meetings with the airline’s management. In an update, the DGCA said that the airline has "requested operational variations/exemptions from specific FDTL provisions for A320 operations up to 10th February 2026. IndiGo has assured DGCA that corrective actions are underway and that normalized and stable operations will be fully restored by 10 February 2026”.
IndiGo, which operates 65% of India’s domestic market, has told the DGCA and the Civil Aviation Ministry that it is temporarily putting on hold the cap on night landings to two and also for the moment revising the definition of night duty from midnight to 5:00 am to midnight to 6:00 am. The management also said that the cancellations are likely to continue for the next 2-3 days as it attempts to reset the schedule and will cut short flight operations from December 8 to stabilise further disruption.
