Exciting news for train travelers! The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has launched 'Economy Meals' to enhance the overall passenger experience. These meals are offered at a very budget-friendly price of INR 20, designed especially for general passengers at specific railway stations throughout India.
This initiative is a positive step forward, especially benefiting travelers in unreserved compartments who often struggle to find affordable and clean food choices during their trips. As part of IRCTC's ongoing commitment to improve onboard services, the introduction of the 'Economy Meals' program aims to provide passengers with economical dining choices that cater to diverse tastes and backgrounds of travelers.
This initiative is well-aligned with the surge in train travel during the summer season and aims to meet the growing demand for high-quality meals at affordable prices, offering passengers a convenient dining solution. IRCTC has set up meal counters at 100 stations and close to 150 counters in total, ensuring that passengers across its extensive railway network have convenient access to these affordable meals. IRCTC also has plans for further expansion in the future.
Passengers at these counters can now select from two meal options: 'Economy Meals' priced at INR 20 and 'Snack Meals' priced at INR 50, offering convenient choices for those seeking a quick snack. Having these affordable meal options near general second-class (GS) coaches on platforms enhances the travel experience for passengers in unreserved compartments by providing convenient access to budget-friendly meals.
Where can you find it?
Meal counters have been established at several stations along the South Central Railway route, such as Hyderabad, Vijayawada, Renigunta, Guntakal, Tirupati, Rajahmundry, Vikarabad, Pakala, Dhone, Nandyal, Purna, and Aurangabad, catering to passengers traveling through these busy routes.
