ISRO to Launch Advanced Communication Satellite on Nov 2

The 4,400 kg satellite will provide telecom coverage across India and the surrounding oceanic regions

Oct 28, 2025 - The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) will launch its advanced communication satellite CMS-03 into space on November 2 using the Launch Vehicle Mark 3 (LVM-3) rocket. The rocket used for this mission is the same launch vehicle that successfully carried the Chandrayaan-3 mission in 2023. This will be the rocket’s fifth operational flight.

Weighing 4,400 kilograms, CMS-03, also known as GSAT-7R, will be placed in a Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit (GTO). It will provide telecommunication coverage across India and the surrounding oceanic regions.

“CMS-03 is a multi-band communication satellite that will provide services over a wide oceanic region including the Indian landmass. CMS-03, weighing about 4400kg, will be the heaviest communication satellite to be launched to Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit (GTO) from Indian soil,” ISRO said on October 26.

This satellite will not only enhance digital connectivity across India but will also play a crucial role for the Indian Navy. It will enable a secure communication network among naval ships, submarines and aircraft.

The launch vehicle has been assembled and integrated with the spacecraft. The launch will take place from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota.
