After a wait of five years, the pilgrimage will resume with a total of 250 people; first group will cross into China via Lipulekh Pass on July 10, last group will return on August 22
April 23, 2025 - After a long wait of five years, the sacred Kailash Mansarovar Yatra is set to resume from June 30. The Yatra, suspended since 2020 owing to the COVID-19 pandemic, is organised jointly by the Uttarakhand Government and the Ministry of External Affairs. Post Covid, rising tensions and border disputes between India and China in the Galwan Valley further delayed the resumption of the pilgrimage. A mutual agreement between India and China has now made it possible to restart the pilgrimage.
A high-level meeting was held in Delhi to review preparations for the pilgrimage.
The pilgrimage will proceed through the Lipulekh Pass in Uttarakhand, leading into the Tibet region of China, where Mount Kailash and Mansarovar Lake are located. The journey will span 22 days in total. There will be a total of 250 pilgrms participating and they will be divided into five groups, each consisting of 50 people. The first group will cross into China via Lipulekh Pass on July 10, and the last group will return to India on August 22.
Health check-ups for the pilgrims will be conducted first in Delhi and then again in Gunji.
The Kumaon Mandal Vikas Nigam (KMVN) will manage the operation of the yatra.
Each team will depart from Delhi and after staying one night in Tanakpur in Champawat district of Uttarakhand, one night in Dharchula in Pithoragarh district, two nights in Gunji and two nights in Nabhidang, it will enter Taklakot in China via Lipulekh Pass (17,000 ft).
Then will follow darshan of Mount Kailash and Mansarovar Lake, followed by return journey via one night in Bundi (Pithoragarh), one night in Chaukori, one night in Almora and then return to Delhi.
