January 27, 2025 - After Jaipur, Kota is soon to have the second airport to offer emergency landing facilities for aircraft. Kota Greenfield Airport is a proposed airport, planned to be built at Shambupura village in Kota district, approximately 15 kilometres from Kota. It will be equipped with state-of-the-art facilities and will have the capability to handle emergency landings of both small and large aircraft in all kinds of weather conditions.

A 3,200-metre-long runway is planned at the airport, making it the longest runway in the State, with a peak hour capacity of 800 passengers . This will allow large aircraft (like Airbus) and cargo planes to take off and land with ease. The Kota airport will have an advanced Instrument Landing System (ILS). High-intensity lights of the CAT-III category will be installed on the runway, along with modern machines for localisation and glide path. High-frequency equipment will also be installed under DVOR (Doppler Very High Frequency Omnidirectional Range). These systems will ensure that aircraft can land safely even in darkness, storms, or bad weather.

In the first phase, the airport will offer international-level facilities, including a terminal building (passenger building) spread over 2,000 square metres, a restaurant and amenities for up to 1,000 passengers at a time. The airport will be built on 440.646 hectares, and an additional parallel airstrip will also be constructed with a width of 23 metres.

According to deputy General Manager (Civil) and Airport Director Tulsi Ram Meena, after the development of this airport, even in storms or at night, large passenger planes will be able to land at the airport.
