Udaipur's Menar Village, a popular destination for bird enthusiasts and one among the favorite destinations in the state of Rajasthan has been placed in the Silver category by the Ministry of Tourism.
Menar is among the 35 villages in India, that have been chosen as the ‘best tourism villages’ in the country after a nationwide competition whose evaluation criteria were aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The categories were announced and awards were handed out in a ceremony conducted on 27 September by the Ministry of Tourism on the occasion of World Tourism Day. Menar was among th 35 villages selected from over 750 entries received from 315 districts across 31 states and Union Territories. 80 Villages from these entries were assessed and 35 were chosen as Best Tourism Villages - 5 in Gold, 10 in Silver and 20 in Bronze.
Prizes were announced in three categories - Gold, Silver and Bronze. The Ministry of Tourism had launched the "Best Tourism Village Competition" on February 16, 2023 to select the best tourism villages from across the country and also to launch a new website to promote rural tourism.
Menar is also known as the bird village and is famous for the variety of migratory birds which makes it the perfect place for the bird watcher. Menar is famous for its migratory birds, Menar is the habitat of around 150 birds including migratory and local.
