Middle East Crisis

June 24, 2025 - Apart from the core conflict zone airspaces - which is Iran, Israel and Syria - neighbouring countries have re-opened their airspaces after briefly shutting it down on June 23, 2025, when attacks between Israel and Iran escalated. Strict caution is, however, being maintained even as airlines are navigating longer routes to avoid the region’s airspace and not fly over Iraq, Iran, Lebanon, Syria and Jordan.

Earlier, on June 23, following Iran’s missile attacks on US airbases in Doha and Iraq, some airports in the region announced they were temporarily suspending services. Airports in Bahrain, Qatar, UAE, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait were shut down. However, they resumed operations a few hours later following a US-brokered “ceasefire” between Iran and Israel.

Meanwhile, major airlines have suspended flights to the Middle East, including key hubs such as Dubai and Doha.

Air India has ceased all operations to West Asia. It has also stopped flights to Europe and five destinations in the US and Canada with immediate effect. Air India Express, Akasar Air, SpiceJet and IndiGo, too, have cancelled or re-routed flights to the Middle East owing to the prevailing situation in the region. Thousands of passengers have been impacted by this. Carriers are running into significant losses, as a result.
