The deal for re-allocation of ownership of the two most visited public parks of Udaipur that had been initiated more than a year ago, culminated today with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between Urban Improvement Trust (UIT) and the Udaipur Municipal Corporation (UMC) today. UIT Chairman Arun Hasija and Commissioner the UMC, Himmat Singh Barhat were the signatories to the MoU in the presence of Udaipur District Collector, Chetan Deora.
As per the MoU, Nehru Garden, which is situated in lake Fatehsagar will be maintained by the UIT, whereas Deendayal Upadhyay Park (Dudh Talai), which is situated on the banks of lake Pichhola will be developed and maintained by the UMC. The finalization of this deal and the handover effected today, is expected to bring about substantial improvements to the beautification and facilities in two of the most tourist frequented parks of Udaipur, as per the Collector.
Over the last many years, the disagreement between the two major public administrative bodies of Udaipur over the responsibility towards these parks had resulted in status quo as far as maintenance and development were concerned. However, now that the MoU has clarified the ownership and responsibilities, these two parks are expected to shine over the green landscape of Udaipur.
To bring to notice of the readers, Fatehsagar and its adjoining areas were under the purview of UIT, whereas the Nehru Garden was under the control of UMC. Similarly, lake Picchola was under the administrative purview of UMC, whereas Deendayal Upadhyay park was under control of UIT. This cross responsibility caused ambiguity and resulted in a bottleneck when it came to development of these parks. Now that UIT has control of both Fatehsagar and Nehru Park and with UMC being given the responsibility of Deendayal Upadhyay park which is situated in its administrative area, the assignment of maintenance rights is clear.
