Udaipur MP Rawat Seeks Details on Development of Tourist Destinations

According to Union Tourism Minister, Rs 2,208 crore has been sanctioned for sustainable tourism projects across India

Udaipur, Dec 1, 2025 - The Ministry of Tourism has revamped its Swadesh Darshan Scheme as Swadesh Darshan 2.0 (SD 2.0) with the aim of developing sustainable tourist destinations. Fifty-three projects worth Rs 2,208.27 crore have been approved under this scheme, and 36 projects worth Rs 648.11 crore have been approved under the CBDT initiative. Four of these projects have been approved in Rajasthan.

Union Tourism Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat provided this information in response to a written question from Dr Mannalal Rawat, Member of Parliament from Udaipur Lok Sabha constituency. MP Rawat had requested information regarding the development of tourist destinations, including whether 50 tourist destinations across the country had been selected. His querty was on the current status of the plan to develop these 50 tourist destinations in the country through the Challenge Mode under the Union Budget 2025-26, and the budget expenditure under the Swadesh Darshan Scheme 2.0?

Minister Shekhawat replied that the development and promotion of tourist destinations and products is primarily undertaken by the respective State Governments or Union Territory Administrations. The Ministry of Tourism has revamped its Swadesh Darshan Scheme as Swadesh Darshan 2.0 (SD 2.0) with the aim of developing sustainable tourist destinations. Of these, 53 projects worth a total of Rs 2,208.27 crore have been approved under the SD 2.0 Scheme and 36 projects worth Rs 648.11 crore have been approved under the CBDT initiative.

In line with the 2025-26 Budget announcement, the Ministry of Tourism has prepared a draft framework for destination development and destination management and has consulted with tourism stakeholders, including State Governments and Union Territory Administrations, he added. 

Under this scheme in Rajasthan, Rs 21.65 crore has been approved for spiritual experience in Keshoraipatan in Bundi, Rs 87.87 crore for development work of Khatu Shyamji Temple in Sikar, Rs 22.58 crore for development work of Karanimataji Temple in Bikaner and Rs 48.43 crore for development work of Malaseri Dungri in Bhilwara district.
