April 16, 2025 – The speed of trains running between Mumbai and Ahmedabad is soon set to increase from the current 130 km/hour to 160 km/hour. This includes premium trains like Vande Bharat, Shatabdi, IRCTC Tejas and Double Decker. At present, the maximum speed for trains on this route is 130 km/hour, but the Indian Railways has completed the necessary work to upgrade it to 160 km/hour.
According to the Indian Ministry of Railways, sectional speed up to 160 km/hour has been approved on the Delhi-Mumbai route and is now in its final phase. With increased speeds on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad corridor, travel time for passengers will reduce significantly. For example, the Vande Bharat Express is expected to save approximately 45 minutes of travel time.
