Nationwide Airport Outage Disrupts Flights Across Major Cities

DGCA orders probe into frequent IndiGo flight disruptions; the airline has cancelled 1,232 flights in November alone

Dec 4, 2025 – There was chaos at several airports across the country on Wednesday (December 3) morning when flight operations check-in systems suddenly stopped working. Because of this unexpected outage, many airports were forced to switch to manual procedures, disrupting flight operations.

At least four airlines across the country — IndiGo, SpiceJet, Akasa Air and Air India Express — faced delays or cancellations. Airports in Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Jaipur and Ahmedabad saw multiple check-in platforms go down simultaneously owing to system failure.

According to initial information, the outage lasted for at least 45 minutes, affecting IT services and check-in systems at airports.

As per media reports, passengers at the Varanasi airport were informed through an announcement that Microsoft Windows had reported major global service disruptions. So far, Microsoft has not made any comments regarding the Windows outage.

Meanwhile, IndiGo Airlines also reported delays, but these were attributed to operational issues, as per sources. On Wednesday as the airline cancelled more than 200 flights and delayed many others across airports nationwide.

The DGCA (Directorate General of Civil Aviation) began an investigation on Wednesday into the airlines’ frequent flight disruptions owing to what the airline has described as “technical glitches and operational issues”. According to the DGCA, the airline has cancelled 1,232 flights in November alone, adding that 755 of them were cancelled owing to restraints under the Flight Duty Time Limitations (FDTL). It has asked the airline to submit a detailed report.

The updated FDTL rules for pilots and cabin crew, introduced to enhance safety and curb pilot fatigue, have sharply reduced crew availability. This has triggered widespread delays cancellations and passenger inconvenience across major airports.
