Preparations are underway at Dabok Airport in Udaipur to start 24-hour air service. The airport, currently operating from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., is gearing up for extended hours to accommodate flights to Gulf countries. Airlines are considering night flights between Udaipur and Gulf countries, expanding routes beyond major cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad, and Ahmedabad. If approved, 24 employees will be deployed for night operations at the airport.
Expansion Plans and Infrastructure Upgrades
With an additional 145 acres of land approved for acquisition, Udaipur Airport's expansion is set to cover a total area of 649 acres, making it the third-largest airport in Rajasthan. The runway, spanning 2743 meters, has been readied for day-night landings and take-offs.
Customs and Immigration Facilities for International Flights
Airport director Yogesh Nagaich confirms that Udaipur Airport has undergone rigorous inspections and scrutiny to facilitate international flights, particularly to Gulf countries. Customs and immigration procedures are in place for seamless operations.
New Flight Service to Bangalore
Vistara Airlines is set to commence a new flight service between Udaipur and Bangalore from April 1, 2024, expanding its operations at the airport. This addition will complement the existing flight services to Delhi and Mumbai.
Vistara Airlines currently flies to Delhi and Mumbai. New flight will depart from Bangalore at 11 a.m. and will reach Udaipur by 1:20 p.m. The return flight will leave Udaipur at 1:55 p.m. and will arrive at Bangalore by 4:15 p.m.
Enhancing Passenger Safety and Convenience
Concerns over taxi operators causing congestion and accidents at the airport entrance have prompted calls for a police checkpoint to ensure passenger safety. Measures are being considered to alleviate these issues.
Airport Infrastructure Development
Udaipur Development Authority (UDA) has initiated the process of acquiring land for airport expansion, aiming to provide ample space for parking and terminal upgrades. The government has allocated Rs 83.50 crores for expenses related to the expansion.
Construction of New Terminal Underway
The central government has planned the construction of a new terminal at Udaipur Airport, with an investment ofRs 887 crores. Scheduled for completion by June 2026, the terminal will significantly enhance passenger capacity and amenities, including increased check-in counters and aerobridges.
