Udaipur, March 27, 2025 - Passengers traveling by train can now board from the station where they originally booked their ticket, even if they selected a different boarding point. They will not be considered ticketless, and no penalty will be charged. If their reserved seat is vacant, it will be allotted to them. Indian Railways has issued new instructions for passengers who choose a different boarding station. As per the new rule, a passenger can board from their chosen boarding station without paying any extra fee.

For instance, if a passenger books a ticket from Udaipur but selects Chittorgarh as the boarding station to travel to Delhi, they will be charged the fare from Udaipur to Delhi. If another passenger books the same seat from Udaipur to Chittorgarh, the boarding passenger may have to travel standing until Chittorgarh. However, no penalty will be imposed. Earlier, such passengers were considered ticketless until their boarding station.

Seat Allocation Rules

If the seat remains vacant, the TTE (Traveling Ticket Examiner) will allot it to the boarding passenger. However, if the passenger does not board at their selected station, their seat will be canceled. During ticket checking, if the passenger is not found on the seat, the TTE will update their details in the handheld terminal machine. The seat will then be transferred to an RAC (Reservation Against Cancellation) passenger or allotted at the next available location. The passenger will receive a message regarding this. If a passenger receives the message and is nearby, they must immediately report to the TTE to avoid losing their seat.
