Redevelopment work on the new state of the art Udaipur Railway Station is underway on war footing by the Railways. The redevelopment and re-construction work is being done with a budget of Rs 354 Cr. The foundation stone for the re-development of Udaipur station was recently laid by Hon'ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to Nathdwara and at present the work at Udaipur has commenced at a rapid pace.

Along with the modern building, the concourse and foot over bridge will connect to the sky walk. According to Captain Shashi Kiran, Chief Public Relations Officer of North Western Railway, the redevelopment work of Udaipur City station is being executed at a fast pace under the direction of General Manager Vijay Sharma.

At present, the work of digging for the new station building has been done by breaking some parts of the old station building of Udaipur City Station and the work of base plinth level is being done. Along with this, civil work related to basement is also in progress.

As per Captain Shashi, the new station will be built over a total area of 86,248 square meters, in which the main station building will be developed in an area of 5,989 square meters (ground + 3) and the second entry station building will be developed on an area of 5,824 square meters (ground + 3).

The main station building will have a provision for car parking, separate gates for arrival/departure, security checking area, 72 meter wide concourse area with food court, shopping court, cafeteria, waiting area, play area, etc. 20 new lifts and 26 new escalators will be installed in the station. Both the footover bridges at the station will be connected to the sky walk.

Unreserved waiting room, executive waiting room, retail stalls, toilets, baggage scanner and coach indicator as well as all kinds of modern passenger amenities will be provided at the station.

The grand and attractive Udaipur Railway Station building will be equipped with green building facilities with features for reduction of energy consumption during construction as well as operation and maintenance, using renewable energy, along with resources like waste processing, rain water harvesting, etc.

Captain Shashi Kiran said that keeping in view the importance of Udaipur city and the tourist destination, many works are being done by the Railways to increase passenger facilities here. For better implementation of smooth rail facilities in Udaipur city, preparations have been made to work in a planned manner, keeping in mind the future circumstances and taking cogniscance of the requirements for the next 50 years. The Udaipur station is being redeveloped under 'Amrit Bharat Station', which includes heritage and modernity of Mewar. There is a provision to develop the station as a major center of the city, so that the tourists coming here also take away sweet memories with a special feeling.
