UK marks fully vaccinated Indians as UNVACCINATED

Indians who have taken both the shots would still be required to follow a 10-day quarantine rule in UK.

If you have plans to go the UK, you will be required to follow certain rules till the Indian government resolves the vaccination issue with UK. 

UK's Covid-time travel regulations have been criticised by the netizens and the Indian ministers. 

People who are about to travel to UK are going to get the shock of their lives. As per the new rules by UK government, fully vaccinated Indians will be considered unvaccinated and each one will have to undergo Covid-19 test and a 10-day quarantine period. There are 7 other countries in the list apart from India whose vaccination will not be considered by UK.

The new rules by UK have been criticized by a number of netizens and Indian Ministers like Jairam Ramesh and Shashi Tharoor. Congress leader Jairam Ramesh said, "Absolutely bizarre considering Covishield was originally developed in the UK and The Serum Institute, Pune has supplied to that country too! This smacks of racism."

The government of UK said that if a person has been vaccinated In India, Africa, South America, UAE, Turkey, Jordan, Thailand or Russia, he or she will be considered unvaccinated even if they have received both the jabs. They will also be required to follow the 10-day quarantine rules.

One must check the following before travelling to UK:

  • 3 days prior to travel to the UK, take a pre-departure Covid test.
  • Book and pay for day 2 and day 8 Covid tests to be taken after arrival in UK.
  • Complete your passenger locator forms before you arrive in England anytime in 48 hours.

After reaching UK:

  • Quarantine for 10 days wherever you are staying.
  • Take a Covid test on or before day 2 and on or after day 8.

Those who are considered fully vaccinated by the UK government, will not be required to take a pre-departure test, 8-day Covid test or subject to quarantine period. If recognised as fully vaccinated, one has to:

  • Book and pay for a day 2 Covid-19 test to be taken after arrival in England.
  • Complete the passenger locator form any time in the 48 hours before arrival in England.
  • Take a Covid-19 test on or before day 2 after arrival in England.

As per new travel rules UK has divided countries into three different categories … Green, Amber and Red. India is listed under the Amber category.

The UK Government website said, "From 4 a.m. Monday 4 October 2021, the rules for international travel to England will change from the red, amber, green traffic light system to a single red list of countries and simplified travel measures for arrivals from the rest of the world. The rules for travel from countries and territories not on the red list will depend on your vaccination status."
