Udaipur, January 8, 2025 - New Zealand has made some changes to its visa and work rules to help people, including Indian workers, find jobs there more easily. If you’re coming to New Zealand for a job that falls under skill levels 4 or 5, your work visa is now valid for 3 years instead of 2 years.
"Skill Level" in New Zealand at workplace refers to a classification system based on the Australian and New Zealand Standard Classification of Occupations (ANZSCO). This system categorizes jobs into five skill levels, with level 1 representing the highest skill level (highly skilled) and level 5 representing the lowest skill level (less skilled).
Hiring Process Simplified
Employers no longer have to advertise a job for 21 days before hiring. They just need to advertise and interview candidates to show they tried hiring locally.
Work Experience Requirement Lowered
You now only need 2 years of work experience to apply for certain jobs, instead of the previous 3 years.
Seasonal Worker Visas
There are now two types of visas for seasonal workers: A 3-year visa for experienced seasonal workers and 7-month visa for workers with lower skills.
No Minimum Salary Requirement
Employers still need to offer a fair salary based on the job and location, but they no longer have to meet a specific minimum salary set by the government.
Family Visa Threshold
To bring children to New Zealand, workers must now earn at least NZ$55,844 per year (around Rs 27 lakh).
Work Rights for Migrants
From April 2025, people who are changing from a student visa or another work visa to the Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV) will get temporary work rights while waiting.
These updates make it easier for workers to find jobs and bring their families to New Zealand.
