November 26,2024 - New Zealand has updated its Post-Study Work Visa (PSWV) rules to attract more international students. The changes are especially beneficial for those pursuing postgraduate studies.

New Rules for Postgraduate Students

Students who complete a 30-week Postgraduate Diploma (PGDip) and then directly enroll in a Master’s degree program are now eligible for a PSWV. Earlier, students were excluded unless they completed the entire 30-week PGDip.

Immigration New Zealand (INZ) said this change fixes gaps in the old policy and gives more flexibility to students pursuing combined postgraduate courses.

Increase in Student Numbers

In 2023, over 69,000 international students enrolled in New Zealand, a 67% jump from the previous year. New Zealand’s top-quality education and opportunities to work after graduation make it a popular destination. The new visa rules add to its appeal.
