Udaipur, December 14, 2024 - Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma will officially launch the facility of panic buttons on Rajasthan State Transport Corporation (RSTC) buses at an event in Gandhi Ground today. This is part of a government initiative to enhance safety measures on public transports in Rajasthan.

Passengers, especially women, will now be able to receive help in case of any issues while traveling on State Roadways transport.

Of the buses operating from Udaipur depot, around 58 of them have been equipped with panic buttons. In total, more than 25,000 buses across Rajasthan have panic buttons installed. Buttons are present on both State Roadways as well as buses on contracts with models ranging from 2017 to 2024.

The buttons are coloured red and there are 12 of these on each bus placed near the passenger seat. Vehicle tracking will also be implemented.

When to use:

  • If a female passenger is facing harassment or someone is in distress while traveling on the bus.
  • In case of an accident involving the bus.
  • In case of any criminal activity occurring on the bus.
  • If there is a malfunction in the bus.
  • In case a passenger has suddenly taken ill and requires urgent medical help.

How it works:

When the button is pressed for three seconds, an alert will be sent to State Roadways Jaipur control centre along with all information about the driver and conductor and location coordinates of the bus. Alerts will also be sent to the mobile phones of the depot’s chief manager, operational manager and other officials. The officials will then immediately contact the driver and conductor, and also, after filtering the calls, will alert the local police station. This will ensure that passengers receive quick assistance in case of any emergency.

Senior Roadways officials and Udaipur depot staff were busy with arrangements until late last night.
