Rajsamand and Jaisamand lakes overflowed after a long gap of 44 years.  People from various parts of Mewar flocked to both lakes to witness the phenomenon that is being awaited for more than 4 decades.

Those who had witnessed the overflow 44 years ago came to the lakes and brought along with them memories from the yesteryears and captured this years overflow.

Dungarsingh Karnawat, one of the members of the club that had been formed to honor Rajsamand lake (in pic above) had witnessed the 1973 overflow and got the opportunity to see the same after 44 years now. As per the elderly at Rajsamand the lake overflowed in 1952 and after that at 1973 to be followed by a 4 decade long wait.

1973 had been a historical year for Rajasthan as far as monsoons were concerned.  There was immense rainfall across the state leading to flood situation in many parts of the state.  The heavy rains at Amet, Charbhuja, Bhim and Deogarh led to overflow of the Gomti river which leads to Rajsamand lake and this caused the Rajsamand lake to reach the 36 meter danger mark.  On the morning of September 5 1973, Rajsamand lake overflowed after 21 years.
