A senior official at Fujairah International Airport, speaking to the Khaleej Times, has mentioned that the airport, which is located about an hour's drive from Dubai, is expected to start daily flights to and from India in the near future.
Mark Govender, the business development manager at FIA, speaking to media at the Arabian Travel Mart that began in Dubai on 6 May, said that Emirates' plan to begin flights to India has been welcomed. He added that while the Airport is in talks with one Indian airline, there are others too who are interested. Currently the airport serves more than two million passengers annually and is capable of accommodating up to 20 flights daily due to its parallel runway configuration. The airport is currently awaiting particular documentation, and the service to Fujairah is expected to start at some point later this year. He stated that a traveler arriving at Fujairah airport can go through immigration, collect their baggage, and leave the airport in less than 15 minutes.
Fujairah, one of the seven emirates of the UAE, is located on the eastern coastline of the Persian Gulf and is renowned for its exceptionally beautiful beaches. The Dubai International Airport, known as the world's busiest for international travel, reported that India had the highest number of passengers passing through, totaling 11.9 million travelers.
