Indian Railways will soon restart its senior citizen fare concession facility 

The facility was discontinued in the year 2020 due to Covid-19 pandemic

 
Indian Railway to restore concession facility

The Indian Railways may soon resume its concession facilities for senior folks, which is good news for those who travel from trains. In accordance with Indian Railways regulations, senior male citizens of at least 60 years of age and female senior citizens of at least 58 years and above were given discounts on the rates of all classes of Mail/Express/Rajdhani/ Shatabdi/Duronto group of trains. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, this facility was discontinued.

Senior citizen discounts, at least in sleepers and 3 AC, should be reviewed and considered, according to the Parliament Standing Committee on Railways.  Earlier the element of concession was 40% for male senior citizens aged 60 years or above  and 50% for female senior citizens of 58 years and above. 

According to the sources, the committee also wished that at least the Sleeper Class and 3A Class concessions to senior residents that were offered in pre-Covid times be examined and taken into consideration so that the weak and really in need citizens might take advantage of the service. 

The pandemic adversely affected the financial condition of Indian Railways but as the Covid-19 situation has now been normalized, the Railway have achieved a normal growth.
