Book a Round Trip, Save 20%: Railways Announces Festival Discount

Tickets must be booked for onward journeys between October 13 and October 26, 2025, and return journey must fall between November 17 and December 1, 2025

Udaipur, August 11, 2025 – Indian Railways has introduced a Round Trip Package scheme on an experimental scheme aimed at benefiting passengers during the upcoming festive season, particularly Diwali, Chhath Puja and other festivals. Under this scheme, if a passenger books both onward and return tickets together, they will receive a 20% discount on the return ticket.

According to the Railways, to avail of this discount, tickets must be booked for onward journeys between October 13 and October 26, 2025, and the return journey must fall between November 17 and December 1, 2025.

“Onward ticket shall be booked first for the train start date between 13th October 2025 and 26th October 2025 and subsequently return journey ticket shall be booked by using connecting journey feature for the train start date between 17th November and 1st December 2025. Advance reservation period will not be applicable for booking of return journey,” the Ministry of Railways said in a statement.

Booking for this scheme will begin on August 14.

The Railway has made this decision on an experimental basis, considering the rush and inconvenience faced by passengers during festival periods. It will ensure hassle free ticket booking plus will be easy on the passenger’s pocket.

Discount will be applicable only if both onward and return tickets are booked together. And the train pair must be the same for both journeys.

For example, if you travel from New Delhi to Mumbai by Train No. 12138 Punjab Mail, then for the return journey, you must book the corresponding pair Train No. 12139 from Mumbai to New Delhi.

Ticket details must be identical. All details in both tickets must be the same – including source and destination stations, passenger name, age, distance, and class (Sleeper, 3AC, 2AC, etc.).

However, the above booking will be permissible only for confirmed train tickets in both directions. Total discount of 20% shall be granted on base fare of return journey only. The ticket booking shall be for the same class and same O-D paid for both onward and return journey.

Other Terms and Conditions

  • Booked tickets cannot be cancelled.
  • No changes or corrections can be made once the tickets are booked.
  • Both tickets must be booked through the same channel, whether online or at a reservation counter.
  • No additional discounts, coupons, vouchers, passes, or PTOs can be applied while booking.
  •  No additional fare collection will be performed if any arises during charting for these PNRs.

However, this discount will not apply to dynamically priced trains such as:

  • Shatabdi Express
  • Rajdhani Express
  • Duronto Express
  • Suvidha Express
  • Vande Bharat Express
  • Tejas Express

All other categories of trains, especially on-demand or festival special trains, will be covered under this scheme.
