Railways Mandates Boarding from Station Marked on Ticket

If a passenger does not board the train from the designated boarding station, the railway system will automatically allot seat to the next waiting passenger

Feb 9, 2026 - Indian Railways has announced a major change in train boarding rules. Now passengers will have to board the train from the station mentioned on their ticket.

Once the new system is implemented, if a passenger does not board the train from the designated boarding station, the TTE will not wait for them until the next station.

Once the train leaves the boarding station and the passenger is not found on the seat, the seat will be treated as vacant. During ticket checking, the TTE will immediately make a “No Show” entry on the handheld device. This will indicate that the passenger did not board the train from the designated station.

As soon as the entry is made, the seat will show up as vacant in the system and cannot then be held. As soon as the seat is declared vacant, the railway system will automatically allot it to the next waiting passenger. This change will benefit passengers travelling on waiting list and RAC tickets.
