Travellers Hit Hard as Rajasthan Bus Strike Continues

Private bus operators’ strike across Rajasthan continues with no resolution in sight till February 24; Udaipur, Jaipur, Ajmer and other districts face transport disruption

Udaipur, Feb 25, 2026 - Till Tuesday, February 24, no solution appeared to be in sight regarding the strike called by private bus operators across Rajasthan. The  strike came into effect midnight of February 23, significantly impacting travellers in several districts including Udaipur, Jaipur, Ajmer, Bikaner and Kota.

The operators are protesting against what they call the Transport Department’s “unjust” action against alleged illegal operation of private buses. Bus operators demanded that the ongoing enforcement action be stopped. They allege that after the Jaisalmer accident, the department has been imposing heavy fines, canceling fitness certificates and even revoking registrations of buses that have valid permits and fitness approvals.

Officials have claimed that although buses operate in Rajasthan, registrations are being done in States like Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh, causing revenue loss to Rajasthan. The department insisted that buses operating in the State must be registered within Rajasthan.

In response, bus operators demanded a reduction in State taxes, alleging that the department was unwilling to find a practical solution.

Talks between Transport Department officials and bus operators were continuing.

Udaipur’s transport system was also impacted by the strike. On Tuesday, operations of private buses running on city and outer routes remained completely suspended. As per reports, offices of private operators were locked and online booking services were also shut down.

Private bus operators, according to reports, also halted buses operating from Savina, Paras Circle and Amberi areas. Operators instructed drivers present at these locations to stop services, affecting local transport within the city as well.

Rajasthan Roadways has kept its depots on alert mode to manage the situation, leading to significant pressure on government-run buses.
