State’s rail budget is Rs 2.68 lakh crore higher from last year; Sleeper Vande Bharat likely from Jodhpur; 77 stations under redevelopment; major focus on safety and infrastructure
Feb 3, 2026 – This year’s Union Budget has proved special for Rajasthan because the Central Government has increased the State’s rail budget by Rs 2.68 lakh crore from last year. Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced that this year Rajasthan will be allocated Rs 10,228 crore under the railway sector, which is the highest allocation ever for the State.
To accelerate infrastructure development, Indian Railways has been allotted Rs 2.93 lakh crore nationwide, placing special emphasis on safety and security. The Railway Minister shared details of the railway budget provisions through a video conference on Monday (February 3) and informed that railway projects worth over Rs 56,000 crore are currently underway in Rajasthan.
Minister Vaishnaw said the current rail budget is more than 15 times higher than the allocation during 2009-14. Since 2014, a total of 1,514 flyovers and underpasses have been constructed across railway tracks in the State. Around 3,900 km of railway tracks have been built, which exceeds the total railway network length of Denmark.
Meanwhile, the North Western Railway General Manager Amitabh shared that in the North Western Railway zone redevelopment work is underway at 77 stations. Of these, five stations have already been inaugurated and work on four stations has been completed. Ten more stations will be ready within the next two months.
He further said that rail connectivity in border areas will be strengthened. The maintenance shed built in Jodhpur is fully equipped for the upkeep of sleeper Vande Bharat trains. As a result, Rajasthan’s first sleeper Vande Bharat train is likely to operate from Jodhpur.
Construction of a pit line is underway in Jaisalmer, while a maintenance depot is being developed at Khatipura. The second entry of Jaipur Junction and the redevelopment of Gandhinagar station are expected to be completed within two months.
The Ministry plans to install the Kavach safety system on 250 km of railway tracks during 2026-27.
