MP Rawat Calls for Udaipur-Delhi and Udaipur-Surat Vande Bharat Trains
MP Dr Manna Lal Rawat urges Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw to cancel the 19,588 sq.m land lease at Udaipur City Railway Station for commercial use, emphasising future railway expansion and Vande Bharat train routes
Udaipur, Feb 7, 2026 - MP Dr Manna Lal Rawat has written to Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw urging him to cancel the e-tender for leasing the land of 19,588 sqm at Udaipur City Railway Station for commercial and residential purposes. He requested that this land be reserved for future railway development needs.
During a meeting with senior officials of the Ministry of Railways, Dr Rawat also demanded the introduction of Udaipur-Delhi and Udaipur-Surat Vande Bharat trains.
Dr Rawat has been actively working towards the expansion of railway services in the Udaipur Lok Sabha constituency, and his efforts are expected to bear fruit in the near future. He has met the Railway Minister multiple times regarding these initiatives.
In the letter, Dr Rawat said that various development works are ongoing at Udaipur City Railway Station. After the recent electrification of the Udaipur-Ahmedabad line, direct rail connectivity to major cities in Maharashtra and South India will be possible, which will increase passenger traffic and require additional railway services at the station.
Considering the increasing number of passengers and demand for railway services in the future, there will be a continuous need for additional land for fundamental and technical facilities.
Dr Rawat highlighted that recently the Rail Land Development Authority (RLDA) issued an e-tender for long-term leasing of approximately 19,588 sq.m at Udaipur City Railway Station for commercial and residential purposes. However, additional land is crucial for new railway tracks, yard maintenance, washing areas and other operational requirements. Leasing such a large area may create serious hurdles for future railway development at the station.
He mentioned that local residents and railway users have also expressed opposition to the proposed leasing, as it does not seem suitable for public interest and long-term railway development. Dr Rawat urged cancellation of the e-tender, requesting that the land be used only for railway track expansion, maintenance yard and other necessary infrastructure.
Dr Rawat also met senior officials of the Ministry of Railways, urging the introduction of Udaipur-Delhi and Udaipur-Surat Vande Bharat trains. He also raised issues regarding doubling of the proposed Ratlam-Dungarpur via Banswara, Dholpur-Sarputhla, and Udaipur-Chittorgarh railway lines. Dr Rawat requested that the railway yard at Umra be extended by two kilometres, citing opposition to the proposed location due to uranium presence.
