Railways Sanctions Rs 158 Crore for Fencing Chittorgarh-Asarwa Track

A sustained animal protection movement prompts the Indian Railways for fencing the Chittorgarh–Asarwa railway track

 |

Udaipur, Dec 27, 2025 – The Indian Railways has announced a budget of Rs 158 crore for fencing the railway track from Chittorgarh to Asarwa. This has come in the wake of prolonged awareness campaigns conducted by villagers and social organisations demanding fencing along the tracks to bring down incidents of animals straying on to the tracks and getting killed.

After train services started on the Udaipur-Asarwa broad gauge line, incidents of animals being run over by trains became frequent. This pushed concerned individuals and groups to undertake campaigns, reaching out to the authorities through traditional and social media, to save animals. And now the sustained, two-year-old campaign has finally borne fruit.

Groups led by Himalaya Jain, Bharat Kumar Jain and their teams from Semari initiated a focused movement in February 2023 to prevent animal deaths on the Udaipur-Dungarpur railway track. The campaign spread awareness across 54 nearby villages.

Memorandums were submitted to public representatives and railway officials in Delhi, Jaipur, Ajmer, Udaipur and Dungarpur, urging fencing along the railway track. Under this movement, a large protest was scheduled at Udaipur City Railway Station on January 1 but it was put off after the Railways released funds for fencing the track.
