Udaipur's Lion Safari’s preparations are underway to bring a pair of Asiatic lions from Sakkarbaug Zoo in Junagadh, Gujarat. The transfer is scheduled to occur between July 24 and August 3, 2024.
Once the Chief Wildlife Warden grants approval, a team from Udaipur will travel to Junagadh. They will take 14 small wild animals from Sajjangarh Biological Park as part of an exchange for the lions. After observing the lions for a day or two in Junagadh, the team will transport them back to Udaipur in the same vehicle.
Sajjangarh Biological Park features a 20-hectare lion enclosure. The trust has built 10 cages within the Sajjangarh Biological Park. As the lion population grows, future exchanges with other animals will be possible through an exchange program.
The group of animals includes four foxes, four jackals, two jungle cats, two chinkaras, and two hyenas that will be send to Junagadh. The Central Zoo Authority had approved this transfer in February of this year.
