Station Master to Now Be Called Station Manager
Indian Railways changes designation of Station Masters and Superintendents to Station Manager; no change in duties or salary structure, says Railway Board
April 27, 2026 - Station Superintendents and Station Masters working in Indian Railways will now be known as Station Manager. According to the order issued by the Indian Railway Board on April 22, 2026, the change in designation has been implemented with immediate effect.
As per the Board’s instructions, there has been no change in the current responsibilities, working system, or pay scale of the concerned officials owing to this change. Only the designation has been revised.
According to the issued order, officers with Grade Pay 4600 (Level-7) will now be called Assistant Station Manager.
Officers with Grade Pay 4800 (Level-8) will be known as Station Manager.
All India Station Masters Association Secretary General Sharad Chandra Purohit welcomed this decision and described it as a historic step related to the dignity and respect of the cadre.
