Stricter Ticket Refund for Vande Bharat & Amrit Bharat II
Passengers may lose 25-100% of fares depending on cancellation timing; know the full refund policy before booking
Jan 21, 2026 - The Indian Railways Ministry has amended the Railway Passengers (Cancellation of Ticket and Refund of Fare) Rules, 2015, and introduced stricter rules for ticket cancellation on Vande Bharat Sleeper and Amrit Bharat II trains. Passengers of these trains will not receive any refund if they cancel their confirmed tickets less than eight hours before scheduled departure.
For Vande Bharat Sleeper trains, if a ticket is cancelled up to 72 hours before departure, 25% of the fare will be deducted and the remaining amount refunded. If the ticket is cancelled between 72 hours and eight hours before departure, 50% of the fare will be deducted. No refund will be provided if the ticket is cancelled within eight hours of the train's departure.
As per the Railways notification, these rules will also apply to reserved tickets on Amrit Bharat II Express trains.
According to a a senior railway official said, “This means that once you get a confirmed ticket, the minimum cancellation charge is 25 per cent of the ticket cost, and it can go up to 100 per cent depending on the time of cancellation.”
For other trains, 25% of the fare is forfeited if a confirmed ticket is cancelled between 48 hours and 12 hours before the scheduled departure, while 50% cancellation charge is applicable if done between 12 hours and four hours before the train's scheduled departure. No refund if the ticket is cancelled less than four hours before scheduled departure.
Travel on these premium trains now come with a price so much thought needs to put in while booking tickets on them.
