Discontinued Bus Routes Cause Inconvenience for Udaipur Passengers

In a recent development, three vital bus routes originating from the Udaipur depot have been discontinued, leaving passengers stranded and inconvenienced. The affected routes include services to Kota, Abu Road, and Jaipur. While alternative buses are still operational on these routes, the absence of specific timings has exacerbated the inconvenience for commuters, particularly those travelling to Kota.

The most notable disruption occurs on the Udaipur-Kota route, with the discontinuation of the 3:45 PM service. Despite other buses plying this route, a significant gap of approximately 6 hours exists between services following the discontinued timing. This gap forces passengers to take private buses, which come at a premium cost of nearly Rs 100 more than the usual roadways buses around Rs 400.

Similarly, the absence of the 11:30 AM Udaipur-Abu Road service and the 1:15 PM Udaipur-Jaipur service has left travelers seeking alternative transportation solutions. While Abu Road sees some relief with seven other operating buses, the Jaipur route remains adequately serviced with approximately 27 available buses, mitigating potential inconvenience for passengers.

Transport officials attribute the discontinuation to the end of contracts for 19 contracted buses at the Udaipur depot, leased for 2 to 3 years. Three buses, having completed their specified kilometers, were consequently removed from service. However, concerns have been raised regarding the lack of contingency planning by Roadways management, given foreknowledge of contract expiration.

Looking ahead, authorities have assured getting 4 to 5 new buses from Transport Department of Jaipur by the end of the month . These additions aim to enhance transportation services not only for Kota, Jaipur, and Abu Road but also for other cities. Plans are underway to initiate operations by the first week of April, alleviating future disruptions for passengers traveling from Udaipur depot.
