Feb 4, 2026 - A major aviation mishap was narrowly avoided at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in Mumbai on Tuesday (February 2) night when the wings of two aircraft — Air India and IndiGo — scraped each other. Passengers were on board both aircraft, but no injuries have been reported.

According to officials, Air India flight AI 2732, scheduled to depart from Mumbai to Coimbatore, was being pushed back before take-off. At the same time, IndiGo flight 6E 791, which had arrived from Hyderabad, was taxiing on the runway. During this process, the wing tips of both aircraft came into contact.

Air India said that, as a precautionary measure, the aircraft has been grounded for technical inspection. A statement by the airline said: “The wingtips of the two aircraft made contact, resulting in damage to our aircraft’s wingtip…. All passengers were safely disembarked and the airline’s ground teams are making alternative arrangements to fly them to their destination at the earliest.”

IndiGo also issued a statement, saying that authorities have been informed as per safety protocols and an investigation is underway. The aircraft was put to maintenance inspections.
