Udaipur-Ahmedabad broad gauge electrification completed; 2 trains to run on electric engines
Udaipur, January 10, 2025 - The electrification work on the Udaipur-Ahmedabad broad gauge track has been successfully completed. As a result, out of the 5 trains operating on this route, 2 will now be powered by electric engines. This move aims to enhance efficiency and reduce carbon emissions on the route.
Starting from January 11, 2025, train number 19315, the Indore-Asarwa Veer Bhumi Express, will operate with an electric engine. Similarly, train number 19316, the Asarwa-Indore Veer Bhumi Express, will also run with an electric engine from January 12, 2025.
Previously, this train used an electric engine between Udaipur and Indore, while running with a diesel engine between Udaipur and Asarwa. With this new update, the train will now run with an electric engine for the entire stretch between Indore and Asarwa, eliminating the need for engine changes in Udaipur.
Kota-Asarwa Express to Run with Electric Engine
Starting January 14, 2025, train number 19822, the Kota-Asarwa Express, will operate with an electric engine on Tuesdays and Fridays from Kota. Similarly, train number 19821, the Asarwa-Kota Express, will run with an electric engine on Wednesdays and Saturdays from Asarwa, starting January 15, 2025.
Previously, this train ran with an electric engine between Udaipur and Kota, and with a diesel engine between Udaipur and Asarwa. With the new update, the train will now operate with an electric engine for the entire stretch between Kota and Asarwa, eliminating the need for engine changes in Udaipur.
Reduction in Time
The operation of these trains with electric engines will not only increase the speed on the Udaipur-Asarwa-Udaipur route but will also save 15 to 20 minutes that were previously spent on changing the engine at Udaipur. However, the schedule of these trains remains unchanged for now.
Currently, 5 trains operate on the Udaipur-Ahmedabad (Asarwa) broad gauge section. These include train no. 20987/20988 Udaipur-Asarwa-Udaipur Superfast (daily), train no. 12981/12982 Jaipur-Asarwa-Jaipur Superfast (daily), train no. 09543/09544 Asarwa-Chittorgarh-Asarwa DEMU (daily), train no. 19315/19316 Indore-Asarwa-Indore Veerbhumi Express, and train no. 19821/19822 Asarwa-Kota-Asarwa-Kota (twice a week).
Expected Trains
After the Indore-Asarwa-Indore Veer Bhumi Express and Asarwa-Kota-Asarwa-Kota trains begin operating with electric engines, there is a possibility that the remaining three trains will also soon be run with electric engines. Additionally, the chances of new trains being introduced on this route have increased, particularly on the Udaipur-Mumbai via Ahmedabad route and the Udaipur-South India via Ahmedabad route.
The transition to electric engines on the Udaipur-Mumbai and Udaipur-South India via Ahmedabad routes has been completed, but one phase is still pending. The reconstruction work at Ahmedabad's main station, Kalupur Junction, is currently underway and will take a few more months to finish. Only after this work is completed will the Udaipur-Mumbai and Udaipur-South India via Ahmedabad routes be fully operational.
