Udaipur-Asarva Vande Bharat Extension to Surat Brings Mewar Closer to South India
MP Dr Mannalal Rawat expresses hope that the prospects of direct trains from Mewar to South India will also become stronger in the future
Udaipur, Sept 1, 2026 - In a significant step towards improving rail connectivity between Mewar and major cities across the country, the Railway Ministry has issued orders to extend the Vande Bharat Express, operating between Udaipur and Asarva, to Surat. This is being seen as a major benefit for passengers from the Mewar-Vagad region.
Timetable
According to the new timetable, the Vande Bharat Express will operate from Udaipur to Surat six days a week, except on Tuesday. It will depart from Udaipur at 3:35 pm and reach Surat at 11:00 pm. On the way it will reach Zawar at 4:03 pm, Dungarpur at 4:50 pm, Shamlaji Road at 5:27 pm, Himmatnagar at 6:18 pm, Asarva Junction at 7:25 pm, Maninagar at 8:58 pm, Anand at 9:50 pm, Bharuch at 10:22 pm and finally Surat at 11:00 pm.
On the return journey, the train will depart from Surat at 6:10 am and reach Udaipur at 1:40 pm.
The extension is expected to open up new avenues of rail connectivity between Mewar and South India. From Surat, passengers will have better connectivity with trains operating to various other cities. It will also provide significant benefits to Mewar in terms of trade, employment and transportation.
MP Dr Mannalal Rawat has expressed his gratitude to Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and the Central Government for giving serious attention to the long-standing demand of the people of Mewar. He said that providing Mewar with better rail facilities is among his priorities and described the extension of the Vande Bharat to Surat as an important step in this direction. MP Rawat expressed hope that the prospects of introducing direct rail services from Mewar to South India will also become stronger in the future.
