RSRTC to revamp bus stands with airport-like facilities
Udaipur, December 5,2024 - The Rajasthan State Road Transport Corporation (RSRTC) is working on plans to revamp its old and rundown bus stands. These bus stands will be modernized to offer facilities similar to those found in airports. This project will cost around Rs 150 to Rs 200 crore.
First Phase of Revamp Begins
The first phase of the project has already started. Eight bus stands across the state, including those in Udaipur, Bharatpur, Ajmer, Chittorgarh, Bhilwara, Bikaner, Beawar, and Bundi, are being revamped. A consultancy firm has been hired to create a development plan for these bus stands.
Need for Revamp Due to Financial Losses
The RSRTC is currently facing financial losses, losing about Rs 90 crore every month. The condition of the buses is poor, making them unsuitable for operation. The corporation does not have funds for beautification. However, the corporation owns valuable land that can be used for commercial purposes, which will help improve the bus stands and generate revenue.
Facilities at Modernized Bus Stands
The revamped bus stands will offer many modern amenities. These will include restaurants, cafes, air-conditioned waiting areas, ATMs, accessible toilets, and accommodation options. The bus stands will look similar to shopping malls and will include a four-story building with all necessary facilities.
Heritage Look and Local Culture
The new bus stands will be designed with a heritage look, reflecting the local culture of the area. This will not only make the bus stands more attractive but will also encourage people to visit them regularly.
PPP Mode for Development
The project will be developed under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) mode. The government had previously planned to develop some bus stands in Kota and Dudu, but the Finance Department raised concerns. A feasibility report has been requested before moving forward with these developments.
