Growing demand to increase many rail services from Udaipur...
Udaipur City Railway Station has the potential to become a major hub for the rail network in Western India. Connecting it with several states could elevate it to a key station in the region. If Udaipur is used as a central point, it could offer a significant route for connecting with South India. This development could boost tourism not only in Udaipur but also in nearby areas. At present, the only direct train operating from Udaipur to the south is the Udaipur-Mysore Express.
Train Service Limited to Major Stations
Currently, Udaipur City Railway Station handles over 50 trains each week, with 19,000 to 20,000 passengers travelling daily. This generates a daily revenue of Rs 42 to 43 lakh. However, while trains connect Udaipur with more than 9 states, services are primarily limited to major stations, leading to insufficient connectivity from several regions.
Need of Some Trains and Some are Crowded
Out of the 52 trains operating weekly, some run only three days a week. Services to places like Shalimar and Indore are limited, and trains to Haridwar and Bandra also run infrequently. There is a growing demand to increase these services to daily operations and to introduce a train from Ahmedabad to Bandra. The train service to Jammu Tawi has been discontinued, and trains like the Ananya Express from New Jalpaiguri are consistently crowded.
Trains Operating from Udaipur Currently
Trains from Udaipur currently operate on routes to Ajmer-Jaipur, Chittorgarh-Kota, Chittorgarh-Ratlam, and Ahmedabad. Future improvements include better connectivity once Ahmedabad's Kalupur Station is linked, and the addition of the Badi Sadri-Nimach line. Establishing a line from Dungarpur to Ratlam could enhance connectivity with Madhya Pradesh. Plans are also in place to connect Nathdwara to Marwar and to introduce a new line from Udaipur to Mount Abu, which would benefit both the railway network and the local population.
Trains from Udaipur travel to various states including West Bengal, Uttarakhand, Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Sikkim. Despite this, major city connections and passenger demand are not fully met, highlighting a need for expanded services.
