Udaipur, December 11, 2024 - Electric trains running from Udaipur to Asarwa are most likely to start from the new year. The electrification work of the railway line is in its final stages, with an inspection-speed trial scheduled for December 19-20. Once this is complete, Udaipur could be connected to South India via Ahmedabad. Trains from Mumbai, Chennai, Somnath, Bengaluru and Hyderabad are expected to come to Udaipur via Ahmedabad. If all goes as planned, then Udaipur passengers travelling to the South of India will not have to go to Ahmedabad to board a train for their destination. They will be able to go straight to their destination from Udaipur itself.

Additionally, the Okha-Nathdwara train may also run via Himatnagar. This proposal by Jay Champawat of the Ajmer Railway Division User Advisory Committee is likely to be implemented.

Meanwhile, with the electrification work on the Asarwa-Himatnagar line completed by the Western Railway, on December 9 an electric freight train carrying fertilisers from Kandla in Kutch passed through Asarwa and reached Himatnagar. This marks the first electric freight train to reach Himatnagar after the speed trial.

On the other hand, North Western Railway (NWR) is working on the electrification of the Himatnagar-Bichiwada section, which is in the final stages. The electrification work between Bichiwada and Udaipur is complete and electric line charging is done. NWR will carry out an inspection on December 19 and 20, after which speed trial will take place in the presence of senior officials from the Electric Department.
