Udaipur, December 4, 2024 - The electrification work following the broad-gauge line from Udaipur to Ahmedabad has nearly been completed. The 42-kilometre electric line from Shamlaji to Himatnagar under the North-Western Railway will be charged starting today. With this, the track is expected to undergo its Commission of Railway Safety (CRS) inspection in a few days. After the CRS approval, trains will be able to operate with electric engines from Udaipur to Ahmedabad.

According to railway experts, electric trains gain speed quickly thereby reducing travel time. Most of the tracks beyond Ahmedabad have already been electrified. Once Kalupur railway station is fully integrated, trains will be able to travel directly from Ahmedabad through Surat, Vadodara and then onwards to Bandra, Bengaluru, Pune, Chennai, Goa, and several other major cities in South India.

The railway has issued a special advisory for people living along the Shamlaji to Himatnagar route that the line on this track will carry 25,000 volts of charge starting today. Hence, people should maintain a safe distance from the line. The height of the line ranges from 4.78 metres to 5.5 metres, and loading vehicles should be cautious, ensuring that their cargo is within the prescribed height limits. Coming into contact with the line could lead to electric shocks, fires or harm to life and property, the advisory has cautioned.

It may be noted that the CRS inspection for the track from Asarwa to Himatnagar has already been completed. Now, only the 42-kilometre stretch from Shamlaji Road to Himatnagar remains to be inspected.

According to sources, redevelopment work is ongoing on a five-kilometre stretch between Asarwa and Ahmedabad, as well as at the main Kalupur station in Ahmedabad. Due to the ongoing work at Kalupur Station, some platforms are not being used, and as a result, no new trains are being sent to this station for the time being. Once the work is completed, trains will be able to travel from Ahmedabad to other stations smoothly.

Power supply for the line between Udaipur and Ahmedabad will be provided through the TSS (Traction Sub-Station) set up at the following locations: Umrda, Dungarpur, Wantda, Prantij, Nandel, Dehgam, and Sardargram.

Similarly, SSP (Sub-Sectioning and Paralleling Post) and SP (Sectioning and Parelleling Post) are being established between Kharwa Chanda and Jawar, Jawar and Jaisamand Road, Jaisamand Road and Semari, Bichiwada and Lasadia, Shamlaji Road and Raigarh Road.
