Udaipur Tourism Push - Heritage Walks, Night Bazaars, Night Food Court

District Collector Namit Mehta holds meeting of the District Tourism Development Committee to review matters related to tourism development in the city

Udaipur, Feb 11, 2026 - A meeting of the District Tourism Development Committee was held on Tuesday (February 10) at the Collectorate Auditorium under the chairmanship of District Collector Namit Mehta. Various points related to tourism development were discussed.

Collector Mehta reviewed the progress of the proposed night food court and night market announced in the State budget to promote night tourism.

Udaipur Development Authority (UDA) Commissioner Rahul Jain informed that the food court on Rani Road is being developed as a night food court. Outlets of the city’s popular and famous food items will be set up there. The food court will have seating for 250 people and a stage for performances by folk artists.

Deputy Director of Tourism Shikha Saxena said that to begin with, the market area from Badi Pol to Jagdish Chowk has been identified for the night market. Members present in the meeting also suggested other locations. The Collector instructed ADM City Jitendra Ojha, UDA Commissioner Jain, Nagar Nigam Commissioner Abhishek Khanna along with Shikha Saxena to examine all suggested sites and submit a report on the feasibility of night markets.

He said that different locations could also be explored on assigned time slot basis. He also asked for a report on the possibility of declaring these identified areas as No Vehicle Zones during specific hours.

The Collector also took feedback regarding the heritage walk. He instructed that the old Nigam library building at Jagdish Chowk be converted into a heritage house and that heritage walks be started in March through the Guide Association. Before that, the Nagar Nigam and the Tourism Department were directed to finalise by the end of February the heritage walk route, rates, timings and cleanliness arrangements.

Additional Superintendent of Police Umesh Ojha, officials from various departments, representatives from the hotel association including UB Srivastava, Sudarshan Dev Karohi, Subhash Ranawat, Manish Galundia from UCCI and members of the travel and guide associations were present at the meeting.

  • Set up theme-based art galleries at historic gates and identified heritage sites
  • Install lighting on historic buildings
  • Extend timings of the Mumbaiya Bazaar and Sukhadia Circle food courts
  • Use community courtyards (nohras) in the old city for parking
  • Ensure deployment of tourist police at major spots for visitor safety
  • Increase CCTV coverage
  • Install uniform information boards at all major locations
  • Inspect and repair all public facilities within a month
  • Complete documentation to include Gulab Bagh as a UNESCO site
  • Promote AI-based traffic light systems
  • Fix uniform taxi rates
