Upgrade of Udaipur Airport to Support Modern Aviation Facilities

Rajasthan government accelerates aviation growth with new airports and training schools

 |

Udaipur, Dec 15, 2025 - Under the Rajasthan Civil Aviation Policy of the State Government, importance is being given to the development of new airports, improve the utilisation of aviation infrastructure and provide better air travel services for passengers and cargo. The implementation of this policy has paved the way for increased investment in the aviation sector and improved passenger and cargo connectivity in the State.

The government is taking significant steps to expand aviation facilities in the State. In the first phase, development and upgradation work will be carried out at Udaipur airport and Uttarlai in Barmer. Additionally, development work will also be undertaken at airstrips in Chak Chaunapura (Sawai Madhopur), Nagaur, Hamirgarh (Bhilwara), Abu Road (Sirohi) and Lalgarh Jatan (Sri Ganganagar).

Meanwhile, the acquisition of 145 acres of private land for the expansion of Udaipur airport is currently in progress. In addition, the process of acquiring around 63 acres of land for a civil enclave and access road at Uttarlai airport is also underway.

The Airports Authority of India has allotted 12,778 square metres of land in Jaipur to the government, where a new hangar and a VIP complex will be constructed.

Meaningful efforts are also being made to connect major cities of the State through air routes. The process of connecting Jaipur with Udaipur, Jodhpur, Bikaner, and Jaisalmer through small aircraft is progressing. This internal air connectivity will significantly benefit trade, administrative access, medical services, and tourism.

To promote aerosports activities, the State Government has also approved terms for leasing out airstrip land. This initiative is expected to boost adventure sports, tourism and economic activities in rural areas.

Rajasthan is steadily moving towards becoming a major hub for aviation training. With the establishment of private flying training institutes in Kishangarh and Hamirgarh, new possibilities for pilot training and aviation skill development have opened up in the State. This will provide new employment and training opportunities for the youth. Over the past year, the process to operationalise eight flying training schools has been initiated.

To ensure smooth functioning of flying training schools, the tax rate on aviation turbine fuel (ATF) has been reduced from 26% to 2%.

To maximise the utilisation of airstrips across various districts, the State Government has decided to allow these airstrips to be used for operating flying training schools. A dedicated policy has also been formulated, under which rates will be fixed for setting up hangars on land adjoining these airstrips.

To develop various segments of civil aviation, the government has set a target to establish flight training organisations, aircraft maintenance engineering training organisations, and maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) organisations. In the first phase, a flight training organisation will be established in Jhalawar.

The implementation of the Rajasthan Aviation Policy, the operation of new flying training schools, and the expansion and development of airports are expected to set new benchmarks in the field of aviation infrastructure in the State.
