Udaipur-Jaipur and Udaipur-Agra Vande Bharat Trains to Stop Operations from February 14
Udaipur, February 13, 2026: Train numbers 20981/82 (Udaipur City–Agra Cantt–Udaipur City) and 20979/80 (Udaipur City–Jaipur–Udaipur City) Vande Bharat services will not operate from February 15, 2026, and February 14, 2026, respectively.
Just before the Holi festival, the railway cited low passenger numbers as the main reason behind this decision. These Vande Bharat services were launched in September 2023. While there was initial enthusiasm, over time passenger numbers did not meet expectations.
First Reduced Trips, Now Completely Stopped
Considering the financial losses, the railway had earlier reduced the frequency of these trains. The train, which initially ran six days a week, was limited to three days on the Jaipur-Udaipur route and three days on the Udaipur-Agra route. Despite this, passenger numbers did not increase satisfactorily, leading to the decision to completely halt services on both routes. This decision is seen in light of balancing operational costs and revenue.
According to railway sources, the train typically carried 50–60% of passengers on normal days. During festivals, occupancy could rise to 80–85%. The train was a useful option for many passengers when confirmed seats on other trains were unavailable. Therefore, halting services just before Holi may cause inconvenience for travelers.
The railway clarified that the Vande Bharat rake will now operate between Udaipur City and Asarwa. This train will run six days a week, with one day reserved for maintenance. According to the timetable, it will depart Udaipur City at 6:10 AM and reach Asarwa at 10:25 AM. On the return journey, it will leave Asarwa at 5:45 PM and arrive at Udaipur City at 10:00 PM.
