Swaroop Sagar gates 2 and 3 were opened at 3:44pm today after the city of lakes was lashed with over 2 hours of heavy rainfall in the afternoon. The lakes have been brimming over the last week and those who are aware of the beauty quotient of Udaipur had been waiting for further rains so that the lakes could bloom to their best.
GATES OF SWAROOP SAGAR
All it took was a couple of hours of rainfall across the city and the water level in the lakes began to go up exponentially. Fatehsagar, which was hovering around the 10.5/11 ft mark over the last three day, took another gulp of 1ft and reached 12ft in an hour.
Residents were seen rushing to Swaroop Sagar and Fatehsagar to witness the waves in full flow, forgetting the challenge posed by COVID. However, the gates of Swaroop Sagar no longer have the name of Maharaja Swaroop Singhji engraved on the pillars. Members of the Lake City Press Club have made this issue visible to the Nagar Nigam and have requested that the name of the Maharaja of Udaipur, who laid the foundation of Swaroop Sagar, be once again highlighted on the face of the lake.
Fatehsagar, in the meanwhile was at its roaring best this season. Heavy rains lashed across Fatehsagar, which is known as the pulse of Udaipur. Rains with high speed winds creating waves in the lake was a sight worth seeing and residents thronged the banks of the lake to have glimpse of their favourite spot. Fatehsagar has touched 12ft.
