In a bid to promote tourism, Udaipur Municipal Corporation has granted licenses to 3 firms for opening up dance bars in the city. As per the information received the dance bars will be opened in Hiran Magri Sector 3, Surajpole and Chetak Circle area.

Udaipur has often been criticised for lack of its night life. This step is expected to be a big boost in that direction.

Questions related to morality are already being raised in many quarters. A UMC official on condition of anonimity said that there is nothing wrong in watching women dance while you sip your beer. He said that UMC would take measures to ensure that things do not go out of hand and CCTV cameras will be installed in each dance bar. The CCTV cameras will be monitored centrally by the Surajpole Police to ensure moral code of conduct is followed at all places.

Congress party and CPI(M) have called for a Udaipur Bandh on April 5 against the decision.
