Groups of men, women and children with multicolored flags are to be seen on the streets of Udaipur these days. The occasion is a special journey of hundreds and thousands of miles to a faraway place known as Ram Devra, the temple of Bhagwan Ram Dev, a 14^th century folk deity .

Every year during this 10 day period, pedestrians and motorcyclists in thousands go to Ram Devra in Jaisalmer. The number even goes to lacs as devotees from many states including Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and several parts of Rajasthan participate in this journey.

It is said that Bhagwan Ramdev has devotees not only among Hindus, but many non-Hindus including Muslims also see him as a spiritual personality.

We met a 57-year-old Muslim devotee named Talib who hails from a small village in Madhya Pradesh. Talib, who is doing this journey since he was 21yrs of age said, “This is our tradition and we are following it from many years. Going to Rama Peer is one of the essential parts of life”.

Sohanlal, 45, resident of Jhabua, MP, said, “I am thankful to Lord Ram Dev that he has blessed me with twins this year. This yatra is my heartiest gratitude to the almighty”.

The people going through such a long journey are carrying their bedding, clothing, cooked and uncooked food and offerings for Baba Ramdev.

All these pilgrims moving on to their journey again started by a slogan “JAI BABA RI.”
