City Palace witnessed a centuries old tradition of Ashva Pujan (Horse worship) today when Arvind Singh Mewar reached Manak Chauk on his Royal Bagghi and worshiped the horse.
The tradition dates back to the times when Mewar used to be a separate Rajput kingdom and the army contained soldiers, elephants and horses. To give the Equine Force their due respect, horses were worshiped by the erstwhile kings on the day before Dussehra. This tradition is annually marked till this day.
It was a big function in which not only the royal family but the local people and the foreigners also showed their presence in the traditional wear. In the beats of music played by the Palace Band, giant horses were brought out adorned with an assortment of jewels and were worshipped by the king.
Ceremony was conducted by Sonika Soni.
